Each and every week visually impaired people in Braintree, Witham, Halstead, Dunmow and their surrounding villages receive audio local news FREE from the Mid Essex Talking Newspaper.
Recordings are produced by the charity’s team of dedicated volunteers who edit read, record and copy each week’s output.
Each one has 90 minutes of local content because, while radio and television offers international, national and county news, it is only the local newspaper that tells you what is happening on your doorstep.
So, since 1981, volunteers have been recording stories from the editions of the Braintree and Witham Times, the Halstead Gazette and the Maldon and Burnham Standard.
They now also add selected items from the Essex Chronicle and a number of other sources providing information services for the visually impaired to the mix.
None of the team receives any payment for their work and the charity receives no national or local government grants. All the money needed to run it is raised by the same volunteers who carry out the weekly production tasks through fundraising events.
Their efforts mean everything is FREE for the listener. You have no membership fees to meet, postage to pay or playback devices to buy.
If you qualify for our service and do not have a player, we will even give you one of those too!
But that is not all.
Anyone wanting to listen to our recordings can do so through this website.
